摘要
The reconstruction of the clean Pt(111)-surface induced down to 400 K in the presence of supersaturated platinum vapor has been investigated by scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). The elements of the reconstruction network are analyzed in detail by means of atomic resolution images. The structure of the network reconstruction and its mesoscopic appearance are compared to similar reconstructions, like the Au(111)-reconstruction. The physical origin of the differences in the appearance of these reconstructions is discussed. The kinetic processes during nucleation and growth of the reconstruction network as well as during the thermally induced decay of the reconstruction are investigated and analyzed in the light of recent theoretical calculations.
