Data are presented showing that the Y1*(1385) production angular distribution in the reaction π-p→Y*-K+ and in its charge-symmetric counterpart π+n(psp)→Y*+K0(psp) is characterized by peripheral (N•Y*+1) and antiperipheral peaking. Explanation for the latter is sought in terms of baryon exchange; so comparisons with other πN→Y*K reactions are made. The peripheral peak cannot arise through the exchange of any known meson. Alternative explanations are considered. © 1969 The American Physical Society.
