摘要
Introduction: The academic, personal, family and social profile of the Universidad de Manizales medicine student was established in order to analyze how it evolves as the educational process passes and until which point the planned medical professional's profile has been achieved. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive study. Of the 492 registered students in the second academic semester of the 2004 between I and X semester, a representative sample of 284 students was chosen and the designed instrument was applied. Results: homogeneous Population: mature very young, with feminine predominance, parent's dependent, of Catholic religion, reasonable in their majority of outside of Manizales, with very low rural origin. Nuclear families stand out, with good function according to the Family Apgar. The most frequent profession in fathers and mothers is teaching, very low the Medicine. Their main motivations are centred in the clinical-assistance exercise. Their life turns exclusively around the study, dedicating a minimum time to other important activities, as feeding, rest and recreation. In their great majority identified with their career, fairly with the university. The students coming from homes with good family function are more positive in their appreciations; those originating from Manizales tend to assume an more benevolent attitude towards the university. Conclusions: In general the students evidence a high degree of satisfaction with the received formation, however their motivations, interests and imaginaries don't go in line with the formation that the faculty seeks, like in the necessity of forming integral doctors, with social and investigative commitment, necessity that comes from the effective legislation and the current demands for the exercise of the profession.
