Acute gastrointestinal bleeding as debut of a duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are lesions that are located as the first location in the stomach (60%) followed by jejunum and ileum (30%), duodenum in less than 5% and 4% colorectal. Other sites such as esophagus or appendix are rare. We report a case of GIST in the third portion duodenal in a 68 year old woman who consulted for an episode of self-limited upper gastrointestinal bleeding, performing initial study with gastroscopy, abdominal ultrasound and CT. Enteroscopy is performed in which a mass objective retroperitoneal 8 by 5 cm in size duodenal third portion. Ised puncture subsequently tru-cut for pathology diagnosed with mesenchymal spindle cell neoplasm consistent with gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
