Objective: To develop to an educative proposal in factors of risk for arterial hypertension in familiar groups of the district the Sultana of the city of Manizales. Materials and methods: Cuasiexperimental study. An educative intervention was carried out active participatory that began with the accomplishment of an acceptance test to delimit the population interested in the District ''the Sultana'' of Manizales. Chosen the population the project lasted 3 months (February to May of the 2005), period in which 5 visits with a regularity of 1 were made every two weeks by family, beginning these with the accomplishment of a test of knowledge and habits to know the level of training of the population, in the following visits by means of pamphlets and practical guides object took to the population to include/understand of a easy way the complex of the arterial hypertension and how they themselves, with very simple actions will be able to reduce the risks. When finalizing the experience was again made the same applied test in the first visit to evaluate the impact. Results: Increase in the knowledge in the participant population in the project due to the great difference in the results in each one of the made tests was observed: In pre - the average of note proves was of 2.5104, whereas the average of post - test was of 3.4627 (P = 0.000), demonstrating the receptivity of the population. Conclusions: The participatory educative strategy is useful in the diminution of the factors of risk for HTA, since the population investigation object demonstrated the learned salary and therefore to be able to apply such knowledge in the promotion of habits of healthful life
