The superconducting compound BaCaLaCu3Oy, T(c) approximately 80 K, can accommodate the gradual replacement of Ca by Cd and systematically have its transition temperature lowered. Previous experiments showed that when either Zn or Cd was used to replace one of the alkaline earths in a copper oxide superconductor, superconductivity was rapidly destroyed. The relation between the transition temperature and the mole fraction of calcium present is found to be nearly linear. In addition, the relationship between the transition temperature and the height of the unit cell is also linear.
