Contemporary dance and synchrony in contemporary music video

Music video has become a catalyst in the current audiovisual scene, which allows to locate trends as a center of hybridization between media and languages, such as music and dance. This feature allows it to generate emotionally meaningful messages for viewers. Contemporary dance offers a type of performance or staging especially used in music video in recent years. This paper presents an exploratory analysis of a sample of music videos where the contemporary dance is the main character and about how we can relate its forms with audiovisual synchrony. We propose a set of variables of analysis and we apply them to an intentional sample. We propose a classification in relation to the type of synchrony that it forms. The results allow to differentiate three types of music video according to the use of the dance. The conclusions point that music video prefers the kinetic synchrony and a type of performance or perforamnce/conceptual, among other visual solutions.
