REFLECTIONS ON THE CONCEPT OF IMPLICIT MEMORY

The notion of implicit memory is today largely employed in psychological and neuropsychological literature. Thus, we are obliged to note, on the one hand, that investigators not working in this field have difficulties to circumscribe this notion and that, on the other hand, its utilisation is often ambiguous in publications. ft was important here to explain the meaning of its present acceptation introducing the problem in a diachronic perspective. If today implicit memory refers to non intentional recuperation of the material, this definition still raises numerous questions among which the role of consciousness in implicit memory tasks.
