摘要：

The article deals with the relevance of the Liberation Theology (TdL) when faced with the challenges that contemporary society and culture pose to theological reflection and the mission of the Church. Based on the focus of some aspects related to the identity of this theology, the author presents the progress of TdL in its 45 years of existence in the ecclesiastical and theological scenario. As a conclusion, reflection about the reality of emancipation from subtle forms of oppression, in the direction of humanization, is associated with the hermeneutics of liberation in its soteriological prism. The language of hope permeates the discourse of TdL.
