ENVIRONMENTAL-IMPACT STATEMENT

In response to the dangers facing the ecological conditions for existence, environmental awareness has increased considerably over the past years. Among the population this is shown by an increased readiness for socio-political involvement; broad environmental policies can be pointed out here as the state instruments in this field. Environmental impact statement, however, has been found to be a very weak instrument which does not live up to exaggerated expections. Possibilities for improvement result both from the standard procedure itself, and out of broader basis of ecological information including questions of methodical processing. © 1979 Verlag Paul Parey.
