Introduced to overcome the drawbacks of synthetic atmospheres for carburizing based on nitrogen-hydrocarbon-oxidant, nitrogen-methanol mixtures effectively produce endothermic gas in the hot furnace chamber without a generator. The authors describe the results of work to evaluate this alternative system, ″Endomix″ .
