摘要：

This paper aims at discussing the potentialities and limitations of using Social Network Sites (SNS) in the educational context based on a bibliographic survey on researches conducted in Brazil and abroad. It presents the concept of Social Network Sites and a brief overview on the emergence of these platforms in the context of Web 2.0, discussing the possibilities in the use of these tools in formal learning contexts in higher education.
