摘要
The article discusses the slab production techniques required for continuous casting-hot direct rolling (HDR) in which the caster is located some distance from the mill. In continuous casting, it is necessary to adopt the optimum slab thickness, an appropriate secondary cooling pattern, slab surface reheating by utilization of the latent heat of solidification and slab edge insulation in the caster. Prior to the rolling operation a jet gas heating system is more advantageous duction heating. In addition, longitudinal turning of the slab is effective to save energy for slab edge heating. Based on these concepts a remote HDR process at Yawata Works in Nippon Steel Corporation has been put into operation.
