Existing techniques for conducting low temperature tensile tests have not proven satisfactory for super pure aluminium due to its extreme softness. The desire to concurrently measure specimen resistivity during 4 K tests also provided experimental difficulties, since the specimens had to be electrically isolated from the metallic load assembly. This paper discusses these problems and describes the apparatus designed to provide sensitive and accurate data on stress, strain, and resistivity at 4 K. © 1969.
