NUCLEATION AND GROWTH OF PRUSSIAN BLUE FILMS ON GLASSY-CARBON ELECTRODES

Chronoamperometry and chronocoulometry were used to study the dependence of the formation of Prussian Blue films at a rotating glassy carbon electrode on the rotation rate, the potential, the concentrations of ferric and hexacyanoferrate(III) ions and time. The time dependences of the current and the charge confirm a three-dimensional nucleation and growth mechanism which includes surface diffusion of Prussian Blue particles to kinks at growing nuclei. The dependence of the film formation on the electrode rotation rate confirms the proposed mechanism.
