The bending analysis of conoidal shells using curved quadratic isoparametric elements has been presented in an earlier paper by the authors. The present study on the effect of cut-outs in conoidal shells is made on the basis of the same formulation. With the examples of five types of cut-outs, the shell behaviour with reference to that of a solid truncated conoidal shell under the same intensity of loading and same boundary conditions is studied and presented in detail. The comparative performances of longitudinal and transverse cut-outs of equivalent size are also included in the study.
