SYNTHESIS OF PREFERRED-ORIENTED HGBA2CACU2O6+DELTA THIN-FILMS

Superconducting preferred-oriented films of HgBa2CaCu2O6+delta of a thickness of approximately 1 mum have been successfully synthesized. The process involves reacting rf-magnetron sputtered films of Ba2CaCu2Ox in a controlled Hg atmosphere at approximately 800-degrees-C for approximately 5 h, followed by oxygenation. The films so obtained show a relatively sharp superconducting transition up to approximately 120 K, as determined magnetically, which is similar to that of bulk Hg-1212.
