This article addresses the challenges for states and specialized arbitrators and institutions facing an increasing number of energy-related arbitrations. The energy sector playing a key role in the broader context of international political economy, these disputes raise fundamental issues for governments and the future of international treaties, notably the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT).
