QUATERNARY STRUCTURE OF URIDINE PHOSPHORYLASE FROM ESCHERICHIA-COLI K-12

摘要
The enzyme uridine phosphorylase was isolated from E. coli cells in homogeneous form. The molecular weight of the molecule, determine by gel filtration, approximately corresponds to a hexamer consisting of monomers with molecular weight 27.5 kD. The hexamer structure of uridine phosphorylase was directly demonstrated by electron microscopy, using digital image processing. It was found that in the enzyme molecule six monomers are arranged in two layers (three monomers in each layer) at the vertices of a triangular antiprism with point group symmetry 32.
