摘要
The novel Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, presents some characteristics that allow us to consider it as a part of Romantic literature tradition. This idea Such is discussed in this study, focusing on the figure of the Byronic hero, Catherine's fall and the novel's ambience. For that, we will try to identify what the resembling characteristics between the Byronic hero and the novel's characters are, and also to study Catherine's possible "fall" into "hell" (which is Wuthering Heights itself). Next, we propose a dialogue with Sandra Gilbert's and Sudan Gubar's article entitled "Looking Oppositely: Emily Bronte's Bible of Hell", originally published in 1979, which discusses the relation between heaven and hell in Wuthering Heights. To characterize the Byronic hero we will use, mainly, Bataille's A Literatura e o Mal (1989) and Praz's A came, a morte e o diabo na literatura romantica (1996).
