THE SPATIAL DEPENDENCE OF DUST EMISSION IN PHOTODISSOCIATION REGIONS

摘要
The behaviour of amorphous carbon dust in photodissociation regions is described. The optical properties of such dust are affected by the competing processes of H-atom addition and UV irradiation. Several predictions of the model should be tested observationally. These include the variation with distance from the exciting star of the peak wavelength of Extended Red Emission (ERE); the anticorrelation of near-IR continuum and the ERE intensity; and the association of ERE with 3.4-mu-m emission. It is suggested that intense localized 3.4-mu-m emission may occur close to the exciting star.
