OPTICAL-ABSORPTION AND LUMINESCENCE SPECTRA OF RH-3+-DOPED CS2NAMCL6 (M = Y, IN, SC) SINGLE-CRYSTALS

The optical absorption and emission properties of Rh3+ in Cs2NaMCl6 (M = Y, In, Sc) and of Ir3+ (M = In) were studied and compared to the more highly resolved spectra of the PtF62- ion. Single crystals were grown by the Bridgeman method and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The emission decay time is 22 ms for Rh3+ and 4.8 ms for Ir3+, but nonradiative quenching occurs above 150 K in the three host lattices. The observed temperature dependence gave values for the promoting mode and accepting modes in agreement with the broad spectral intervals observed and with analogous PtF62- modes. The energy gap between absorption and emission has been explained in terms of the promoting modes and the S-factors of the combining states. A crystal field calculation including spin-orbit coupling is used to fit the observed levels and show where unobserved ones must lie.
