摘要：

Screening for prostate cancer remains a clinical dilemma: There is no clear evidence that any current diagnostic test can decrease mortality. However, as discussed in this paper, new information about optimal combinations of digital rectal examination, transrectal ultrasound, and the prostate-specific antigen test suggest that their combined predictive values can identify not only men at high risk but also those for whom continued frequent screening may not be cost-effective.
