CORRELATION EQUATIONS FOR ESTIMATING FREE-ENERGY OF ADSORPTION AT THE AIR-SOLUTION INTERFACE

Studying the adsorption of a number of organic compounds at the air-water and the air-solution interfaces has made it possible to evaluate free energies of squeezing out Delta G(sq)degrees a particle of a surface-active substance (SAS) onto the air-water interface and free energies Delta G(sal)degrees of salting-out SAS onto the interface between two phases due to an introduction of a strong electrolyte into the water. An equation allowing the values of Delta G(sq)degrees for unsaturated and aromatic molecules to be calculated is proposed. The adsorption of compounds, which are prepared on the basis of formalenecyclohexylamine, at the air-solution interface is found to be accompanied by the deprotonation reaction. The free energies of squeezing out are shown to linearly depend on the Hansch hydrophobicity parameters.
