Resonance Raman scattering superimposed on near-infrared luminescence in trans-polyacelylene excited at 1.42 eV (876 nm) and 1.45 eV (854 nm) was observed using a Ti-sapphire laser. Cis- and trans-polyacetylenes were confirmed to behave quite similarly in optical and photocurrent responses, at least near their respective intrinsic absorption edges. Considerably clear vibronic triplet subbands appear in the reflection spectrum, and intense multiphonon Raman scattering occurs. The photocurrent excitation efficiency is practically zero at the absorption edge, and edge luminescence appears, although its yield is not high.
