EUROPEAN COMMUNITY CRIMINAL-LAW

Criminal law was originally intended to be outside the competence of the lawmakers of the European Community. This article explores the way in which European Community law has nevertheless become relevant to criminal lawyers. Although a number of areas where European Community law is relevant are summarised, particular emphasis is placed on the role of Community law as a defence to a criminal charge brought before a court in a Member State.
