Aesthetic Correction of Bad Positioning in Operative Dentistry

Objective: The development of composites, with better mechanical and aesthetic properties, enabled their application in new clinical situations, not previously considered. The correction of dental mal alignment currently obtained through orthodontic movements may now have a faster and aesthetic alternative based on simple restorative procedures. This work intends to show how to aesthetically correct dental mal-alignment through direct restorations with composites. Materials and methods: The authors present a review of the scientific literature, available on Medline, with the keywords: "instant orthodontics", "aesthetic dentistry" and "restorative dentistry". Complemented by a clinical case developed by the same authors in the "Departamento de Estomatologia, Medicina Dentaria e Cirurgia Maxilo-Facial da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra". Conclusions: The use of restorative procedures in the aesthetic correction of dental mal-alignment is presented as a viable alternative. The success depends on a careful approach to the case and the use of appropriated materials and techniques.
