A significant sample of duel dramatizations in Lope de Vega's plays enables us to highlight, from the initial denial to the truncated duel and the fight to the death, the diversity of its repercussions on plot-building and, consequently, the varying yet important creative function of an episode which occurs very frequently in 17th-century Spanish theatre.
