After a rapid review of the fundamental problem of the dark matter in the universe, we present the microlensing candidates which were announced for the first time at the TAUP 93 conference. These events may be the first evidence for Massive Compact Halo Objects and the baryonic dark matter that we know should exist. We then discuss the implication of these observations for the ongoing searches for non-baryonic dark matter and argue that those efforts should be pushed at least as vigorously as before. Finally we review these experiments, focusing in particular on the Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). Our main remarks there are that it is essential to actively reject the background, and that cryogenic detector experiments are coming on line.
