Dry cleaning is one of the most common and at the same time most neglected tasks in paper conservation. In the recently opened conservation centre Haus Luttinghof, a series of tests was carried out to establish new dry cleaning systems. A systematic approach to dry cleaning of objects of art on paper, defined as partial gradual dry cleaning, was developed. Another aim of the project was to find out whether electric erasers and micro sand blasters could have a wider use in paper conservation. The use of electric erasers and the micro sand blasters on suitable paper surfaces has proved to give more even and thorough dry, cleaning results than manual dry cleaning with block erasers and dry cleaning powder.
