TEXTURE DEVELOPMENT VIA GRAIN ROTATION IN BETA-SILICON NITRIDE

A grain rotation model first described by Jeffery is applied to quantitatively predict texture development and texture heterogeneity in hot-worked beta-Si3N4. Comparison of model predictions and experimental results indicates that such models can successfully predict the texture developed in beta-Si3N4 with significant differences observed at height reductions greater than 60% (true strain almost-equal-to -0.9). Applications include a description of textures in hot forging, plane strain compression, and various green body forming techniques including tape casting and extrusion.
