INFORMATION NEEDS IN THE FIELD OF SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

It is essential to respond to the territorial cohesion and societal challenges in Poland during the 2014-2020 financial period. High costs of transport investments covered from public funding mainly, call for taking the right decisions concerning sustainable mobility. They should be based on good monitoring systems and evaluation of their effectiveness in terms of environmental, social and economic effects. Based on the available statistical data, the paper explores the sustainable mobility monitoring data necessities. The research has been carried out throughout the literature analysis and survey research concerning Tricity (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia) inhabitants commuting behavior and their interest regarding the new Metropolitan Pomeranian Railway. It is highly recommended to develop a research program concerning the collection, analysis and application of high quality, standardized transport data in order to be able to provide an adequate framework for transport planning and policy benchmarking. Although transport-related statistics are widely gathered, their quality is not good enough for making right policy decisions with sustainability paradigm in mind.
