Investigated the influence of input conditions on serial output. 3 groups of 30 undergraduates each learned a list of 10 consonants. Group 1 had temporal input corresponding to required serial output. Group 2 had only spatial separation of items as a cue to required output. Group 3 had both. Groups 1 and 3 did not differ in trials to criterion or number of errors at each position in recall. Both learned faster than Group 2. For rapid serial learning, temporal contiguity proved to be (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved). © 1969 American Psychological Association.
