The results of a preliminary assessment of PCDD, PCDF, and PCB levels in soil samples taken inside and outside the ACNA chemical plant are presented. Sites with PCDD and PCDF levels cumulatively up to 2400 ng/kg (as EPA/1987 ''toxicity equivalents'') were found. Most of the contamination was located below topsoil, as can be expected as a result of the waste burying operations performed for many years, until a few years ago. PCB levels of up to 5000 mug/kg were also measured.
