SU(INFINITY) AND THE LARGE-N LIMIT

摘要：
The large-N limit of SU(N)-invariant theories is re-examined from the point of view of SU(∞), where this is taken to be the group of globally Hamiltonian symplectic diffeomorphisms of the standard 2-torus. A path integral argument is used to obtain a valid large-N action for the well-known single hermitian matrix model in one dimension. This method is compared with previous approaches, in particular with the collective field method of Jevicki and Sakita. © 1992.
