ASSOCIATION OF CARCINOMA OF UTERINE CERVIX AND TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS INFESTATIONS - FREQUENCY OF TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS IN PREINVASIVE AND INVASIVE CERVICAL CARCINOMA

From data obtained from health checks in the Swedish county of Östergötland during the period 1964-1966 the frequency of Trichomonas vaginalis in a series of more than 13,000 normal women was found to be 7.4 per cent. There were 348 cases of preinvasive and 47 of invasive cervical carcinoma. The respective frequencies of Trichomonas vaginalis among these cases were 29.3 and 29.8 per cent-values that are about 4 times as great as that for the normal series. The possible connection between the presence of this parasite and carcinoma of the uterine cervix is discussed. © 1969.
