摘要
Recently, interest in superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) systems of approximately 1 MJ storage capacity has grown among potential industry and utility users. Today's product is relatively expensive. Potential savings, especially in the capital cost of the refrigerator component, could result from the incorporation of high temperature superconductors (HTS). This paper presents configuration estimates for 1 MJ HTS-SMES systems, along with an assessment of possible cost savings over a similar system using conventional superconductors.
