COLLISION-INDUCED LIGHT-SCATTERING IN THE FAR RAYLEIGH WING OF GASEOUS NITROGEN

摘要
We show that the Rayleigh line of N2 gas at low densities has a quasi-exponential high frequency part which is purely collision induced. Experimental results are compared with recently computed line shapes taking into account interaction induced dipole and octupole mechanisms.
