From traditional church repertoire of singers of the Parish of St. Martin the Bishop in Vranjic

By selecting 20 traditional church chants that were or still are sung in worshiping in the parish church of St. Martin the Bishop in Vranjic, the author is presenting a cross section of some representative forms of the local liturgical or paraliturgical singing repertoire of Glagolitic origins. Reviewing of transcribed and analysed units provides an overview of the practiced ways of performing music (soloist, responsorial and antiphonal singing, and use of the so called typical and special melodies), melodic and harmonic forms (scopes, characteristic intervals, chord formations, etc.), style and agogic characteristics and identification of their modal and tonal elements. Wherever this was possible, presented are also the basic information on origins of the lyrics and other contextual elements of ritual singing, in Vranjic for many years nourished by the local male church choir.
