Carnival and Music in Salamanca in the Local Press along the First Decade of the 20th Century

Carnival festivals are undoubtedly one of the most deeply rooted customs within the social context of Salamanca in late nineteenth century. At the beginning of the twentieth century, many of those traditions were lost for diverse reasons, among them "murgas", "comparsas" and some other different types of instrumental groups. Using the local press as historical source, this article summarizes the main musical interests in the city panorama of the time, by collecting the most relevant groups in Salamanca music scene.
