An ectopic liver tissue on the gallbladder

Ectopic liver tissue is a rare developmental anomaly. It was seen frequently on gallbladder but was occurred in several places including intra-, retro- and extra- peritoneal sites. A 35-year-old female patient underwent surgery with the diagnosis of gallstones. A brown mass separated from liver was detected on the gallbladder during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The mass was removed during cholecystectomy. Pathological examination revealed the liver tissue. Ectopic liver tissue is usually detected incidentally, during laparoscopy, laparotomy or autopsy. There are several mechanisms to explain the development of liver ectopia. Ectopic liver tissue is usually asymptomatic. In conclusion the removal of ectopic liver tissue may be the appropriate management strategy.
