Local anesthesia for sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer

The sentinel lymph node biopsy is now considered methodic recommended in the treatment of the breast cancer T1No. The authors propose a study on 46patients with breast cancer in initial stage treated among January 2006 and December 2008 in which the biopsy of the LS has been effected in local anesthesia in day surgery before the surgical treatment on the breast. Confirmed the diagnosis of breast neoplasia with cytological examination or with microhistological biopsy, are been furnished informations to patients about the SLNB in local anestesia and the various phases of the treatment. The linfoscintigrafia has been performed the day before the SLNB. After histological diagnosis of the LS, at the most within 5 days, the patients are been hospitalized and submitted, with negative LS, to alone mammary surgery, on the contrary with LS+, to mammary surgery and linfoadenectomia. A questionnaire has been proposed regarding besides the impact of the methodic one on the quality of life and the procedures during the phases of the treatment. The results show, that the biopsy of the LS in preoperatory phase in local anesthesia, allows to plan the treatment and the following therapies with surgical times and sanitary costs notably reduced with a good psychological impact on the patients.
