EFFECT OF MANURES AND COMPOSTS ON NEMATODES, BORER WEEVILS AND YIELD OF PLANTAIN

摘要
The paper evaluated pest control in and yield of plantains when manured with matured compost, poultry and cattle farm yard manures treated or untreated with wood ash or Furadan. The application of untreated poultry farm yard manure significantly improved plantain establishment and yield and reduced pest damage. Plantains which received untreated compost had retarded growth, heavy pest build-up and rapid yield decline. The inclusion of wood ash in other manures effectively checked damage due to plantain weevil and nematodes. © 1990 A B Academic Publishers.
