STUDIES ON HIGH COORDINATION-COMPLEXES OF THORIUM(IV) AND DIOXOURANIUM(VI) WITH PHENYL VINYL SULFOXIDE

摘要
A new series of ten complexes of thorium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI) with phenyl vinyl sulfoxide (PVSO) having general composition ThX(4).n(PVSO) (X = Cl-, Br-, I- or NCS-, n = 4 and X = NO3-, n = 2) and UO(2)X(2).2 PVSO (X = Br-, I-, NCS-, CH3COO- of NO3-) were prepared. The complexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molecular weight measurement, magnetic moment, conductivity measurement and infrared spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray powder diffraction analysis of some of the representative complexes are also given. In all the complexes PVSO behaves as monodentate neutral ligand which coordinates to the metal via lone oxygen atom. On the basis of analysis, probable coordination number for Th(IV) either 8 or 10 while for U(VI) either 6 or 8 is suggested depending upon nature of anion present.
