When mining methane gas from coal beds, it is useful to know the fracture structure of the coal bed in order to optimise the drilling program. (How many wells and how far apart?) The possibilities for doing this using Thermal transients are explored for the purposes of developing measurement programs and appropriate analyses for obtaining this structural information from the top of a bore hole.
