Idiopathic Juvenile Osteoporosis: Radiologic Findings and Review of the Literature

We present a case of idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis in a nine-year-old boy. We emphasize the radiologic signs of the disease and review the most relevant publications in the literature. Idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis is a rare disorder of unknown etiology and pathogenesis affecting bone metabolism. Its clinical manifestations are varied. Onset may occur before or during puberty, and it is potentially reversible. The main radiologic findings are osteopenia, fractures of the vertebral bodies and long bones (especially at the level the metaphysis), and formation of osteoporotic bone.
