Theater and cinema: a historical perspective

The paper analyzes, from a historical perspective, the relationship between theater and cinema. Upon emergence of cinema, theater undergoes major changes related to urbanization and the technical innovations, such as the advent of electricity that will modify the theatrical scene, adding new possibilities of creation and reception of works. Initially regarded as rival arts, theater and cinema are to relate in an increasingly intense, establishing an indissoluble partnership. From "filmed theater" to "movie theater," experiments of the Symbolists post-dramatic theater, the boundaries of the specificities and differences are diluted in the meeting of plural arts and fragmentary.
