Russian Arctic shelf belongs to the strategic areas of the country with an enormous potential of natural resources, particularly hydrocarbons reserves. Against the background of growing interest in the development of the Arctic region, in particular its offshore fields, the actual problem of Arctic fleet selection and optimization appears. Therefore, there is need for the research to ensure the strength of vessels during navigating in compacted and brash ice. The studies to ensure the hull strength when it hits the ice are of special interest. The basic condition for ice navigating is to ensure that the vessel ice performance meets the ice conditions and navigation mode. The features of the traditional calculation methods are limited. Using numerical modeling of ice vessel interaction process is a promising, informative, but understudied. Using the design and engineering analysis of automated systems can improve the quality and efficiency of the designed product and its elements by increasing number of options under consideration of design decisions and a more detailed analysis. In addition, it achieves a reduction in the amount and labor intensity of technological operations during production. Using specialized software, the study of the ice hitting the hull was conducted. Resulting from the study was found pretty good convergence of the experimental and theoretical data, and the performance of the hull stresses resulting from the research is more informative and detailed.
