EASING DOCUMENT ACCESS WITH EASTMAN-KODAK DOCUMENT IMAGE MANAGEMENT-SYSTEMS

This is a two-part article that describes two different information management systems available from Eastman Kodak: an optical disk-based system and a computer-assisted retrieval (CAR) implementation. The first part of this article describes A.M. Castle's (Chicago, Illinois) use of a KIMS 4000 optical disk-based information management system. After a nine-month trial to ensure all of Castle's stringent criteria were met, the firm installed four more KIMS systems 4000 with WORM optical disks in other distribution centers. Based on an interview with Frances Hassel, microgaphics supervisor for American Greeting, Inc., the second part of this article describes how the use of a new CAR function streamlined records management. This Eastman Kodak system allowed American Greetings to consolidate administrative staff from around the country into its suburban Cleveland headquarters.
