摘要：

The article aims to critically examine the key characteristics and effects of "ius soli", that is a complex notion too easily used in the public discourse on citizenship. To this purpose the internal complexity of the notion of "ius soli" is taken into account from a comparative perspective, with a focus on citizenship regimes of some immigration countries in southern Europe. Far from being graspable from a purely technical point of view, the reform of the conditions for the acquisition of nationality needs to be carried out considering the new challenges related to the transformation of belonging in multicultural and transnational legal systems.
